The Kinship House

We who kazoo would like to tell you about the organization It's A Kazoo Christmas is benefiting: The Kinship House.

The Kinship House is a non-profit organization that began in Portland and has operated for over 10 years. Their organization has a unique and successful method to help transition children who are going into foster care and/or adoption situations.

Their method involves interviewing family members in the child's biological family to identify the specific circumstances in that child's life. They also do extensive assessments of the child and offer counseling for up to 6 months. As a final stage in transitioning the child into their new family, Kinship House counsels and supports members of the new family to improve the likelihood that the child will be accepted and adopted.

The success of Kinship House has been measured by the fact that nearly all of the children who have gone through their program do not end up in criminal and mental institutes, on the streets as homeless kids or back in custody of child welfare services. Without Kinship House, the majority of children who go through state custody are likely to end up in one of these unfortunate circumstances.

"It's A Kazoo Christmas" was about more than enjoying the spirit of the holiday season. Everyone who purchased a kazoo for just $5, helped us to help the Kinship House. And we thank you all for that.
